C.S Lewis: To be united with the beauty we see...

A story that stirs and inspires Discovering words that speak profound truths that you struggle to structure and articulate = revelation and relief, CS Lewis - Widely read and quoted. Someone who I was intimidated to read. Simply because I felt it was beyond my depth A fear my intellect would not be able to comprehend Silly, I know... but true. A quote by CS Lewis was written out and posted by a singer I admire, from his work called  ' The Weight of Glory' A stirring. Interest peaked A longing to grow in understanding To be challenged. I began to read. And re-read The same 10 pages 5 times. I wanted to absorb what he was saying. To be able to reiterate it so clearly when opportunity to share came along It was like he understood me The way in which my mind tried to make sense of things. "We usually notice it just as the moment of vision dies away , as the music ends, or as the landscape loses the celestial light . What we fee...

Waiting for Gilbert

The unfolding of something beautiful is sometimes found in the waiting I went for a walk with a friend a while back along the river. Our goal was to find a independently owned coffee shop/tea house at the next town. As we got closer, we discovered that what we were looking for didn't seem to be found anywhere. We contemplated just going into a pub, but thought, 'no there must be something more.' We carried on walking. Hoping. But seeing nothing. We saw the familiar signs. Starbucks, Costa, Nero. Looking at each other... looking to the other, to decide what to do.... 'Do we just cave in, is there any hope of finding what we were looking for.,,?' We decided to give it a few more minutes, walking a bit further. Something caught our eye. No big sign, nothing to suggest this is it, this is what we had been looking for. Just little things to peak our curiosity, little bits of hope arising. As we got to this door we looked in to discover, a unique coffee sho...

Hello 30...

Hello 30...  Saying that out loud doesn't make it feel any more real. It doesn't even help persuade me to think I could possibly be here yet. Interesting how it seemed so far away... so, dare I say it, old. Yet here I am.  I can't say I feel, old, nor ready for any of the things I once associated with that word. I barely feel able and ready to face the world as an independent woman let alone be able to be responsible for a family any time soon.  I still very much feel like a young girl unsure and unprepared for the 'real world.' Which if I am being honest, I thought I would have had the whole, 'package' deal at this age. Only when comparing myself to my friends and those around who have 'it' I find myself freaking out that I have somehow fallen behind without realizing it. Deep breath.  As that is not at all truth. I cannot say I regret where I am now.  This journey, this adventure, could not be any more exhilarati...

What a difference a year makes.

I remember my dad saying that phrase growing up. As Christmas is tomorrow and we quickly approach the start of a new year I find this phrase floating around in my thoughts as of late. Upon reflection this past year, I have managed to check off many of the 'To Do' & 'To See' from my lists.  These lists primarily composed while driving around country roads, climbing in trees, playing hide & seek at the farm and on the swing my cousins and I built, dreaming of the lives we would live.. someday. And I realize someday never really arrives.  Rather, we are living this day.  Someday is always a distant and far off day, no matter what age we find ourselves at. Maybe it is safe to say that we have been lead to believe when 'someday' arrives we will have it in our possession and we will find that change and uncertainty will cease to be such a common part of our day to day. However this naive idea of the future we buy into is like 'trying ...

In the blink of an eye

Three weeks to go. Three weeks and the internship will be done. Where did that year go....? Seriously. It feels like I blinked and I went from starting the year to finishing. Perhaps it is a bit of an exaggeration. How do I even begin to try to explain the treasure this year has been...? From simply being here, to being part of something that is so incredible in the way they love God and love people. To meeting and becoming friends with incredible people, to being challenged and given opportunities I never thought I would have. I can say this year has been one of the most difficult, rewarding and wonderful years yet. To all who have supported me in this year. Who listened and helped me step out of the box, known as comfort, to get to this place. To those who helped remind me that God's economy operates much differently to the one we find ourselves falling into. That sometimes you have to step out of sync in order to find the rhythm, even though it doesn't make complete sense....

What's in a name....

Nicknames,I think it fair to say, have many differing opinions on whether they are a sign of endearment or of disrespect. Both are true, depending on whom is assigning the nickname and the intent behind it. I have always been particularity fond of having nicknames, obviously from family and friends of whom love and respect me.  Many nicknames have stayed with me since childhood. To this day, to some, I am not Sheena.  Rather,I am Beana, Beanie, Sheenie, Sheens... there are quite a few others. Those others, are a little embarrassing and must be understood in context of the story in which they were birthed :) *cough* Dolly *cough* ;) What I enjoy the most about being given a nickname, is that it means you have left an impression. Often times it indicates that you have found a place in someones heart and whether it is out of a funny moment, embarrassing moment, a very evident/dominate character trait etc. when given, these nicknames have a way of making one...

Birthday Bliss

If anyone has ever been too spoiled on their birthday, I think I would qualify this year. My friends went above and beyond in helping make it a memorable one!  March 22nd - London day trip with friends So thankful for the friends who helped me organize this day as well as had the insight to know what I would enjoy seeing and making it all happen.   We rode boris bikes in Hyde Park. While we were riding we got caught in a hail storm! I found it increasingly hilarious as we were being beaten with the hail! Great memories! March 24th- My Birthday A lovely friend picked me up and took me out for the morning. We had delicious smoothies and browsed a few stores. In the evening I had the honour of being joined by a group of friends for dinner at a pub. It was such a blessing to be surrounded by so many amazing people who I now have the privilege of calling friends. A pril 26th- Surprise Road Trip for my birthday  The Jane...
