Adventures that befall- Dad & Mom cross the pond

"If adventure will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad." -Northanger Abbey

March ushered in the arrival of both spring and my parents.
It has truly been an amazing month.

We began our time together in England where we celebrated dad's birthday in Windsor.

Windsor Castle

Touring Windsor Castle

Happy Birthday to my daddy!

London

We took the train into Waterloo Station where we then headed to our first destination.

We definitely did the tourist things. :) Both the London Eye and River boat cruise.
It was a wonderful way to see the city and learn about it!

Look what we found (Nick!!)

Buckingham Palace

The Netherlands

For our second week together we had the great privilege of traveling to the Netherlands where we stayed with my dad's Aunt and Uncle and met his cousins. We were able to see where his parents had lived.
Dad with his Aunts... we had a good laugh about how tall he is!

In Amsterdam in what was an orphanage, we are in what was the play ground.

A couple of our many lovely tour guides for the week.

So nice to get to know our family.

Such a sweet moment.

Brad took us to a lovely little town, it was super foggy but it added an element of mystery to this Castle we saw!

Changing Leaves

"I keep turning over new leaves, and spoiling them, as I used to spoil my copybooks; and I make so many beginnings there never will be an end."   ~Jo March,  Louisa May Alcott, Little Women. A few years ago, I upgraded to a new-to-me, used iPhone.  The camera was better, the storage slightly larger for my obsessive hobby of taking photos of things that caught my eye during walks.  (Let me be honest, it happened far too often, but then again, it's who I am!) My friend's husband jokingly asked if it came with a photo album of leaves, or something along those lines. To his credit, it was a witty and hilarious joke that reflected a reality and truth, that all who were present knew very well... Sheena sure loved to post photos of leaves. I can't help it, my breath catches and I want to document the moment, the transition and to share it with others.  The difference between today and tomorrow is everything in this season.  So, I don't want to miss this moment, th...

No Shortcuts

Work smarter, not harder. Wisdom that has served me well in many an instance. However, a shortcut may seem like the best decision, the easiest option and even perhaps the smartest choice. But what if the blessing is found in the delay? Or in the journey that takes more time? What if the landscape along the longer route lends itself to invoking creativity, that only finds its inspiration in the beholding of its view? What if the courage you will need one day, comes from the obstacles faced along the route that are more complex in its landscape?  What if the only way to learn to navigate the roadblocks in life come from learning to read the map along the way? Why do we despise the delay? Why do we find frustration in taking more time to end up where we intend to be? Shortcuts.  Are they truly the easier option? Or could they inhibit the process of preparing us for our destination in the most beneficial and beautiful way.  Could they ...

Chucking things in a bin

In an attempt to be productive tonight, I found myself rummaging through boxes filled with collections from my teenage years I found it very interesting to look back and discover things kept that were once important to me. Items that held sentiment, dreams, goals and hope for the future, or memories of moments I never wanted to forget Tonight I found myself looking at these items through different lenses Chucking things in the bin became a overwhelming source of freedom Not everything, by any means, but certain things that no longer held value or use, found their way into the bin. Now if only I could be as decisive on my future... Where the road leads, I have no idea, but I am excited for what adventure is around the corner
